Song Shuyu: Producing region and history shape famous liquors

SHANGHAI, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) – Producing region and history represent the two most important values of world's famous liquors, said Song Shuyu, vice president and secretary-general of China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA) at the ongoing 14th International Alcoholic Drinks Expo held in Shanghai on Friday.

"For a long time, producing region has been one of the most important criteria for global consumers to judge the brand value of famous liquors," said Song, adding that specialties in nature ecology, microbial ecology and liquor-brewing techniques from different producing areas serve as the core supportive factors that make liquors famous.

According to Song, six of ten world-famous liquor producing regions come from China, where the corresponding six famous liquor companies, including Maotai, Wuliangye, Luzhoulaojiao, Yanghe, Fenjiu and Gujinggong, which contributed to more than 90 percent of the total market value of 19 listed Chinese liquor companies.

"Currently, CADA and China National Light Industry Council are committed to building famous liquor producing cities and towns with local governments of famous liquor producing regions," said Song.

In addition to producing regions, history also brings significant value to famous liquors.

"Without years of brewing, there is not enough romantic aroma of liquors," said Song. Many world-famous liquor brands boast a time-honored history of hundreds of years, added Song.

Liquor brand values brought by years of fostering are increasingly prominent at a time when tasting aged liquors and collecting famous liquors have become a new consumption trend, and the private collection market of famous time-honored liquors is rapidly expanding, according to Song.
